An Evening with SLHS Experts Discussing the Journey to a Ph.D.

In a recent event that underscored the vibrancy and dedication within our SLHS community, the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), in collaboration with Dr. Spaulding, orchestrated a compelling and insightful evening centered around the pivotal question: “Why should I pursue a Ph.D.?”

This event was graced by the presence of distinguished panelists, including Dr. Grela, Dr. Spaulding, and Dr. García-Sierra, who generously shared their personal journeys, motivations, and experiences in pursuing a Ph.D. Their candid discussions provided a wealth of perspectives, addressing critical queries such as “Why did you decide to pursue a Ph.D.?” and “What was your biggest fear or reservation about applying to a Ph.D. program?”

In a conversation with Dr. García-Sierra after the event, he stated that SLHS is very fortunate to have a devoted and dynamic group of NSSLHA students within our program. Their initiative to coordinate such an event demonstrates their commitment to fostering a culture of inquiry, support, and academic excellence.
