Outreach and Engagement
Community engagement is fundamental to our identity – and crucial to our strength as a department.
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences has a direct impact on our University and our region. We provide high-quality clinical services to community members through our Speech and Hearing Clinic. Our faculty and students contribute to UConn’s vibrant research community centered around language and cognition.
Current Initiatives
Clinical Services
The UConn Speech and Hearing Clinic offers high-quality clinical care in speech-language pathology and audiology to community members. It is one of the first and longest public-serving university clinics of its kind. Our clinical patients receive compassionate, state-of-the-art care from faculty in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. The clinic also provides a unique training ground for our students, connecting them with real clients and real-world experience in a health care setting.
Research Community
Our faculty and students work closely with scholars in other fields, such as cognitive science and psychological sciences. We are heavily involved in interdisciplinary centers and institutes, and we host events and initiatives where we can share ideas between disciplines. We collaborate with researchers across the University, and contribute to UConn’s reputation as a leader in research on language and cognition.
Colloquium Series
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences Colloquium Series highlights theory-guided, hypothesis-driven translational research in our field. It features top scholars from UConn and other universities across the country, and is open to faculty and graduate students in our department and the University community.
