On April 13th 2023, the Department of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences hosted a Speech, Language Pathology Alumni Panel. Two recent graduates of UConn’s SLP program came to speak to current graduate students about finishing school, studying for the Praxis, getting a job following graduation and what it is like to work as a clinician in the field. The event was well-attended and sparked conversations about the field of speech language and hearing sciences. The panelists shared their diverse perspectives on the challenges and rewards of their work, and their advice for current students pursuing a career in this field.
One of the key themes that emerged from the panel was the importance of hands-on experience in the field. The alumni shared stories of their clinical work and participation in grant programs, highlighting the many opportunities available to students in the department. They encouraged current students to take advantage of these opportunities and to seek out experiences that will help them grow and develop as professionals.
