Meet Monica Santana, M.A., CCC-SLP, an alumna of UConn’s MA-SLP program!

 

While gaining experience working with children at a daycare during high school, Monica met a child with autism who had difficulty expressing their wants and needs. Speaking with the child’s mother about supports in place for them, she was introduced to the role and impact a speech-language pathologist (SLP) played in their life. This ultimately introduced Monica to the field of speech-language pathology and inspired her career choice! As a proud Connecticut native, Monica chose UConn’s MA-SLP program as it is a highly ranked program in the nation. 

 

As an SLP, Monica works with kindergarten students in the educational setting, specializing in articulation, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and receptive/expressive language. Monica’s favorite part of her job is watching her students gain confidence as they accomplish new skills.

 

A fun fact about Monica is that she was Miss Connecticut 2024, a role in which she spent the year advocating for those with communication differences!
