Associate Prof. Dr. Spaulding’s research featured in UConn Today

Another one of our SLHS faculty members has had research featured in UConn Today! Associate professor Dr. Tammie Spaulding’s research investigates how adults with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) may be disproportionally represented in the criminal justice system. Dr. Spaulding completed this research study with Audra Blewitt, a UConn SLHS Alum and current Speech-language pathologist in Arizona. DLD is a neurodevelopmental disorder with no clear cause. This affects the ability to express organized thoughts, recall events, using precise vocabulary, and using complex sentence structures. Dr. Spaulding’s research that was featured in UConn Today found that these adults are more likely to be perceived as guilty in criminal mock trials, due to these language impairments.
